In November 2026, we invite you to discover the exhibition *From One Café to the Next: Memories of the Bar*, on display at the Musée des Alpilles in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Running from 26 June 2026 to 31 March 2027, it traces the history of cafés and their role in the town’s social life. The exhibition explores these meeting places, which have long played a central role in everyday life. By the end of the 19th century, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence was already home to numerous cafés lining the square, each with its own atmosphere and regulars.
As they make their way through the exhibition, visitors discover how these practices have evolved over the generations. Card games, dominoes, billiards, music, dancing and simply chatting all bear witness to the diversity of these activities. Based in 1 Place Favier, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the Musée des Alpilles runs exhibitions and activities dedicated to local heritage throughout the year. In November, the museum switches to its winter opening hours and welcomes visitors Wednesday to Saturday, from 1 pm to 5.30 pm.
