A monumental dive into the heart of the underwater world

From 4 July 2026, Carrières des Lumières will be offering a brand new immersive creation entitled «Ocean, immersion in the underwater world». This brand new programme promises to take visitors to the heart of the ocean depths thanks to a monumental staging combining digital projections, sound effects and a spectacular aquatic universe.
In the former quarries of Les Baux de Provence, the giant walls will be transformed into fascinating underwater landscapes. Visitors will be able to admire colourful coral reefs, mysterious sea caves, shoals of tropical fish and many emblematic species of the oceans, all in a life-size immersion.
Planned for the summer of 2026, this experience will appeal as much to families as to fans of digital art and nature. More than a hundred marine species will be presented through over eight hundred video sequences specially designed for the exceptional dimensions of the Carrières de Lumière.
Along the way, visitors will have the impression of swimming alongside giant whales, orcas, sperm whales and sea turtles. Some scenes will also take visitors into the depths of the abyss to discover rare species and unknown worlds.
Immersion is not just visual. A specially designed soundtrack will accompany the projections with the natural sounds of the ocean: the sound of waves, wind, sea songs and the movements of aquatic fauna will enhance the sensory experience.
With this new creation, the aim is also to raise public awareness of the fragile beauty of the oceans and the need to preserve marine ecosystems. This immersion will give visitors a better understanding of the richness of the underwater world and the environmental issues involved in protecting it.
Les Baux-de-Provence, in the heart of the Alpilles, is once again asserting its cultural appeal with a summer programme that will delight the hordes of visitors who come to discover Provence during the summer months.
This immersive experience will alternate with the «Picasso, art in motion» and «Frida Kahlo, in the heart of it all» exhibitions, allowing visitors to discover several artistic worlds throughout the 2026 season.
